What we were up against
Manual KYC verification was their #1 bottleneck. A team of 12 analysts processed 500 documents/day with a 72-hour turnaround. Errors cost $50K+ per compliance failure. They needed automation that could handle 15 document types across 8 countries with 95%+ accuracy.
What we built
We built an AI-powered document processing pipeline that uses OCR for text extraction, GPT-4o for intelligent classification and data extraction, and a custom validation layer that cross-references extracted data against compliance rules. The system handles 15 document types (passports, utility bills, bank statements, tax returns, etc.) with a human-in-the-loop review queue for low-confidence extractions.
How we did it
Week 1-2: Mapped all 15 document types, built extraction schemas and compliance rule engine.
Week 3-4: Built the OCR + LLM pipeline with retry logic and cost monitoring.
Week 5-6: Implemented the validation layer, review queue UI and Slack alerts.
Week 7-8: Load testing with 10,000 real documents, accuracy tuning and deployment.
The results
The pipeline now processes 10,000+ documents daily with 95% straight-through processing. The compliance team was reduced from 12 to 2 reviewers who only handle edge cases. Average processing time dropped from 72 hours to 15 minutes per document. Zero compliance failures in the first 6 months of production.
